Bits and Bobs

This page is just some interesting pictures of small wartime things that I've gathered. It'll grow over time......#:o)

I got these wartime plugs from a friend in 2003. The critical material note was under the first layer of plugs and only the second layer was missing the terminals. The MB runs nicely on them and they look far better than a set of NGK's.......

These came from a mate who worked in Jersey for a few years. Middle two are minted by the Vichy government. The "French state" (L'État Français), as it called itself in contrast with the "French Republic"

Maybe I'm just a sad bastard, but I like wee things like these unpainted wartime pencils. There used to be loads of these in the house when I was kid and I must have used most of them up. I put some chalk in the lettering to make it show up for the photo.

I found these corroded Nazi coins out in the field next to the house, they were just sitting there on the surface and must have been turned up by one of the goats hooves ??? Kind of strange to find them up here on a peacefull Scottish hillside. The one on the left is 50 Reich Pfennig 1942 and the one on the right is 10 Reich Pfennig 1941.

Some of the family were in Singapore when the Japs got there. The women and kids escaped by boat, but my great uncle Albert stayed behind. We don't really know what happened, but he was involved in the power station and may have been kept alive because he was needed to keep it running?? He brought a pile of these "Dollars" home with him after liberation. He died later from TB.

This fuel can has been lying in my parents shed for my whole life and I'd never paid it much attention untill I had to move it the other day and noticed that the faded paint was once drab green and the stenciling on the sides reads "UNLEADED PETROLEUM SPIRIT" As far as I know the petrol used during the war was all unleaded except for aviation fuel. My guess is that the can was used by the British military during the war.
