When I bought my jeep I already knew a little about wartime jeeps, but just what I'd found out from a few magazine articles. I bought both Vols. of Ray Cowderys "All American Wonder" and read them to death. Since then I've gathered quite a pile of jeep books.... Some of the more recent jeep books/magazines (all from the same source) have some interesting pictures, but many of the captions are less than accurate......If I can spot simple mistakes on half the pages, how can I trust the information on the other pages???

Jeep (and related) books in no particular order,

All American Wonder vol 1 and 2 - Ray Cowdery These are good books with loads of information. There are some mistakes, but the bad is far outweighed by the good.

Jeeps Over The Pacific - Yasuo Ohtsuka Wonderful !!!

Jeeps Down Under - Yasuo Ohtsuka Almost as wonderful.

Jeep Jeep Jeep - Yasuo Ohtsuka, reprint by jeepworld I was surprised by the poor printing quality of this book compared to Yasuo's other two, but perhaps the quality has been lost during the reprinting ??? Some very interesting pictures, but many of the photo's are poorly reproduced when compared to the same photo's in other books. It's fine if you just want to see jeep pictures, but if you're into wee details it's very frustrating.

The Wartime Jeep In British Service 1941 - 1945 - Gavin Birch This book is filled with clear, well printed photos of British jeeps many of which appear nowhere else. Unlike some authors, Gavin has obviously taken the time to look carefully at the pictures and think before writing the captions. Excellent book and deserves to be on every wartime jeep enthusiasts bookshelf.

The Jeep - Jean Gabriel Jeudy Nice French book, good pictures and info on wartime jeeps and the Hotchkiss jeep.

The Military Jeep - Lawrence Nabholtz Detail differences and info by year. It's an expensive book for only 62 pages.

Jeep, Bantam Willys Ford - Emile Becker It's in French, but full of useful information that's not easily available elsewhere.

Jeep Goes to War - William Fowler Some mistakes, but a good book. Plenty of British pictures.

Hail To The Jeep - A Wade Wells Probably the first jeep book ever, first published in 1946.

Half Safe - Ben Carlin Across the Atlantic by jeep, or GPA to be exact. First published in 1955, don't know if it was ever reprinted?

The Standardised Jeep - John Farley This is an excellent book. There are a few small mistakes, but it's well worth adding to your bookshelf.

TM-10-1186 master parts list 1943 - USM Reprint Essential parts reference book for any detailed jeep restoration.

TM-10-1513 Willys MB Maintaenance Manual 1942 - USM Reprint Nice reprint of the wartime manual, but watch out for the mistakes....

The Complete WW2 Military Jeep Manual - Brooklands Books The title say it all....

Quarter Ton - Pat Ware Interesting book about the jeep (also Landrover and Champ) as used by the British Army. Highly recomended !!!

Rare WW2 Jeep Photo Archive - Mark Askew / jeepworld I suppose there's some interesting stuff in it, but I'd rather go to the pub......

British Airborne Jeeps, Modifications and Markings - Groucho Publishing If you're into British airborne stuff, you need this book. The new 2002 edition has 51 airborne jeep photos at the back, not high quality printing, but still very interesting stuff.

By Air To Battle - HMSO The official account of the British airborne operations. Published in '45 and probably not since?? Well worth a read if you can get hold of a copy and it'll make you realise just how lucky you are NOT to be in a glider.......

Jeep In Detail, Willys MA & MB - Wings and Wheels Publications Some of the jeeps in this Czech book are a little rough and incorrect, but it's still a nice book from a different angle.

Historic Military Vehicles Directory - Bart Vanderveen Comprehensive listing of military vehicles from the 30's to the 50's

British Army Handbook - George Forty Detailed handbook of British Army organization, weapons, training, etc. during the war

From Welbike to Corgi - Peter Miller ISBN 0953068307 Very good, readable book with good tech info, drawings and photos. I just wish I could afford a Welbike......

Military And Civilian Amphibians - Brooklands books A collection of magazine articles and road tests. Hardly worth the money.

VW Kubelwagen - Brooklands Books Collection of articles and Allied training manuals on the wartime VW. Also some post war 181 info. Readable and interesting.

'44 From Normandy To The Ardennes - Charles Whiting I've never been able to read war history books, but this one has me hooked and I'm sure I'll buy more of C. Whitings books in the future....

Wireless For The Warrior Vol.1 - Wireless sets No.1 - 88 - Louis Meulstee I bought this for info on my 19 set, which of course it doesn't cover..!!!! Excellent book though and once I've made my fortune I'll buy Vol.2 for the 19 set info !!

Wheels And Tracks - After The Battle As far as I know publication stopped with the death of Bart Vanderveen. Wonderful publications, more than a magazine, but not quite a book. All of them are well worth adding to your shelves.

Operation Market-Garden, Then and Now - After The Battle Vols. 1+2 Wonderfull and very detailed account of the Arnhem operation with excellent photos. Not cheap at £79.90, but well worth it if you're even slightly interested in the operation or the equipment used.

"Go To It" The illustrated History of The 6th Airborne Division - Peter Harclerode The title says it all.......

If you're looking for military books, Chris Evans Books is the place to go........
